Geotagging Photos Using Garmin Nuvi 205
Patrick 8/26/2008 9:21:05 PMSo I was trying to figure a way to add Geotags to my pictures without attempting to manually find locations for everything. I am leaving for Ireland on Saturday and I wanted to get this done before I left. I ended up talking to a less then helpful employee at Best Buy who claimed that none of the cheaper navigation devices actually saved the travel log onto the device. I ended up purchasing a Garmin Nuvi 205 and just took it home and connected it to my laptop to see what I could find.
UREKA! I found it right away, the Garmin DOES store the travel log, and it does not clear itself every time you power down the device either! All you need to do is connect your Garmin Nuvi to your pc using a mini USB cable (not included). I was able to use the connecting cable for my Sony Reader and my Cannon Powershot.
Next you need to go and read the this post and download the associated program. It was quite a breeze once I set it up and I was able to test it the next day. To the left is a link to the web album I ended up creating while driving to work. If you click on the "view map" button you can see the pictures I took from my car as I drove to work (I was safe I promise Mom!). Also, check out the "more info" pane on the right side of a selected picture, you can see the Latitude/Longitude information attached to the EXIF data by GPicSync!! It was very easy, now can I just get it done while driving on the wrong side of the road but the right side of the car!! Happy GeoTagging!
